Go to > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features in Vista/Windows 7 and remove all older versions of Java. Ican only presume that there is a remnant somewhere in the Registry that needs to be purged. Java is not very forgiving and very fragile. The is no option to remove them in Add & Remove Programs I have used JavaRa and it hasn't worked.
