For whatever reason it appears that the RDP password prompt will appear if you try to connect while it is still installing updates even though you can't actually connect. I seem to authenticate properly, but the RDP logon dialog disappears after showing, "Configuring remote session..." for a few seconds. I was able to connect remotely from another PC. Thank you for the suggestions so far. Just does nothing. It was due to a Microsoft patch which was overwritten by Windows 7 SP1. (Basically the patch which was of higher version was installed before SP1 by Windows Update.) FIX: Uninstall
TightVNC is still working. Well, it rejects bad usernames, so I know that the network service is trying to verify credentials on the remote machine, and if it got that far, it's not a firewall. If I enter a wrong password, it rejects me. I'm still investigating a solution, but would appreciate any thoughts.
