If the old DC is dead you will have to seize all the roles the original one held. Fixing what was wrong may have been easier than going this route. Verify that the source DC has registered its CNAME record Use step 1 from "Check Active Directory Name Resolution using PING" to locate the current CNAME of the source DC.
