My XP SP3 had IE 6.0 running on it, downloaded and installed IE8 as advised, I got the message asking if I want to activate on startup, I clicked yes and And also, I used another XP OEM CD. After a reboot, I was able to get into Windows and activate like normal. Let me know how it goes! Check This Out
After activation my computer crashed and I could not restart. And by the way, OEM and Retail products keys/media are not interchangeable. It came with Windows XP Home pre-loaded from Dell. It was just like installing the software in the factory. Copy these registry backups to another location before you perform an in-place upgrade/Repair Install. Can anyone tell me how I can get around this problem without reinsatlling XP? The IE8 install failed with a message saying to re-boot in order to roll back the failed install, but when it re-booted there was no indication that it was rolling anything
