My XP SP3 had IE 6.0 running on it, downloaded and installed IE8 as advised, I got the message asking if I want to activate on startup, I clicked yes and And also, I used another XP OEM CD. After a reboot, I was able to get into Windows and activate like normal. Let me know how it goes! Check This Out

After acti­va­tion my com­puter crashed and I could not restart. And by the way, OEM and Retail products keys/media are not interchangeable. It came with Windows XP Home pre-loaded from Dell.
